The Clone

Back in 3072,  Dr. James and Dr. Smith were creating a new device that has never been seen before. For ten years, Dr. James and Dr. Smith were trying to invent a way to clone people. People were always occupied with work and menial day to day errands that they never could not find time to spend time with their family and children or to just have fun. The doctors knew that life would be better with a clone to assist them in these everyday jobs.

James and Smith had been working in their laboratory for years and nothing. They were  just about to quit when they heard the sizzle of something burning. James had knocked over a chemical and it spilled all over the invention. The sizzling grew louder and louder until finally, “CRACK” goes the machine and out pops another Dr. James! The doctors, growing mad from lack of sleep, were shocked that their invention has finally worked! Then suddenly, the machine started making more!

Now there were three. No, four. Now five, Dr. James’! “Get the hammer!” yelled Smith.

“We can’t destroy this masterpiece,” Dr. James exclaimed.  “We’ve worked to hard to kill our work!  This will be the end of menial house chores and trips to the store. We must let it continue!”

“If we don’t terminate it now we may all be killed!  We don’t know what they are capable of,” shouted Dr. Smith. “SMASH” goes the machine. Parts go flying. And finally one, straight those Dr. James’ heart.

Approximately thirty years later, Dr. Smith died of natural causes. Dr. Brown and Dr. Williams were cleaning out his office when they came upon a set of blueprints. It was the blueprints for the cloning machine. Naturally they had the urge to experiment and figure out if this contraption would really work.

They worked on it for years. Then one day, it finally worked! They decided to call it “The Clone”. Just like Dr. James, they weren’t aware that the machine could get out of control. They only saw dollar signs. So, they patented “The Clone” to help everyday people gets everyday chores finished in time to spend time with the family. Sounded safe, simple, and quite convenient for all. Unbeknownst to the doctors, life on Earth would never be the same.

Long after the deaths of Williams and Brown, clones of people were everywhere.  One would see, five, ten, fifteen clones of a single man would wander the city streets.   The world became drastically overpopulated. As the years passed, people struggled to find food to survive. Earth was becoming a harsh planet to live on. Desperate for food, people and their clones could not control themselves. They started killing and eating each other. The killing and fighting and people eating became a vicious cycle of death. The cannibals eventually turned into zombies.  No one would ever fathom that this was to become the most deadly apocalypse in history.  Earth was becoming so dangerous and so terrible, it was not safe to set foot outside your front door without it being eaten off.

Julia and Floyd are brother and sister that are surviving on their own at the moment. Julia, disgusted at the fact that her own parents have turned into cannibals, had decided to run away with her younger brother Floyd and their three closest friends, Anton, Dax and Christa.

Anton and Dax are 14 year old twin brothers that love to hunt and fight outside all day long. Julia figured that there was no way that the group could survive without the help of their hunting skills. Christa is Julia’s best friend from school, she was studying to be a doctor or an engineer. Christa, is a crucial member of the team; is always one step ahead of the game, and if someone were to get hurt she will know exactly what to do. Their plan was to meet at the abandoned department store by 7 a.m. and to avoid all zombies on their way.
Julia and Floyd packed flashlights, clothes, and the little food they had left and were ready to meet at the rally point.

The zombies no longer needed real food, they just preyed on anything living.  It had been so long since the group had ventured outdoors, they had forgotten about some of the stores in town.  As they approached a department store, it was surprisingly stocked with food. The team could go for months before running out of food. The store also had a huge clothing department so it won’t be a problem when their clothes get dirty. Living in the department store wasn’t that bad. The team was pretty content, except now they decided that they needed to figure out a way to save the human race.

Initially, their plan was to exterminate the entire population so the world could just start from scratch. Zombies from all over were making their way east.  The group realized quickly that the zombies were hunting the only living humans, them! They set up traps wherever they could and found that they could eliminate the zombies with the help of the sun.  City by city they’d lure zombies into parks, zoos, and sporting arenas.  The kids would keep them running until daybreak.  Then sizzle, just like Smith and James original mistake, the zombies would melt away. Eventually, the zombies contained themselves on the island of Manhattan. They would set up camp and hunt for zombies until they were all gone.

The team decided to fill backpacks with basic necessities for survival. Dax and Anton found guns and plenty of ammunition for the hunt. Christa and Julia packed as much clothes as the could possibly carry in each of their backpacks. The boys were in charge of food. He stuffed all types of food into his backpack. He knew that they would be needing as much as possible.

“Tomorrow is going to be a long day so I think we should spend the night here so we can be fully rested for the adventure to come.” said Julia

“We could use all the rest we can get.” Christa agreed “Good night guys!”

They slept in the mattress department of the department store with fresh sheets and pillows.

The next morning they awoke with an early start. Ate dry cereal and toast with a little help from the grocery department and set of to the park. “There shouldn’t be much trouble for a while.” said Dax.

“Yeah, zombies are only on the move at night.” agreed Anton.”We should be safe to set up camp for a few hours.” That evening they worked for hours setting up traps and motion sensors hoping to catch a few before they killed the majority.

“I think we’ve got barrier action!” exclaimed Floyd. Floyd was in charge of monitoring the surveillance cameras. He waited by the fountain near Christa and Dax. “Over by the North entrance of the park there are a few coming in. Wait! There is more on the south entrance! Get ready to fight guys!”

“Everybody make sure your walkie-talkies are on. We need to be able to communicate at all times. Lets move!” Julia informed. Julia and Anton are hiding in a tree by the south entrance and Christa and Dax are by the south entrance by the water fountain. Everything should go as planned, they just have to keep following each other.

The first set of zombies went past Anton and Julia. They dropped down a couple traps but they didn’t do very much, so they hopped down and decided to make a run for it. All they had to do was make sure the zombies followed them all the way to the dog park. The dog park is completely enclosed with a fence that makes it impossible for zombies to escape. Christa and Dax were just about to run out and trap some of them but they got  distracted by the other zombies. Julia and Anton were supposed to wait for Dax and Christa to say they were ready to move. Through all the commotion Julia got rushed and forgot to talk to them before they made a run for the dog park. “Run!” yelled Dax. “Hurry up! Their gaining on us!”

“It’s no use. We can’t out run them now!” replied Christa

“You have to keep trying! The survival of the human race depends on us!”

“I just can’t do it!”

Christa took out her walkie-talkie and said “Goodbye. It is time for me too say goodbye to this cruel world. Make sure that the future life is better than this one. Goodbye.”Christa slowed her pace and was ready to be taken alive by the zombies. Dax couldn’t except the fact that she was just giving up on life.

Dying young and alone is a terrible way to die. Dax felt it was unfair and selfish for they were in the exact same situation. So he slowed his pace to hers and kissed her. The best moment they shared together, the last moment they shared together.

Trying to ignore the fact that two of their best friends had justed died Anton and Julia ran as fast as they could, as hard as they could. For them. Anton and Julia made it all the way to the dog park and out all they have to do next is wait for the sun to rise, but its not as easy as it sounds. Three people have to contain thousands of zombies over an hour.Anton still had guns and some ammunition to keep them together.

The sun has almost came up when Floyd realized there was a cut on his hand. The cut was from when the zombies came in the south entrance. As the sun rose he became weaker and unable to control himself. Julia knowing that he would only get worse, she knew he would not be able to finish their mission with her brother. The only appropriate action to make during this situation was to put him out of his misery and shoot him.

“I love you Floyd. I will miss you so dearly. Please understand that this is for the best. I have just recently learned that nothing is perfect and it it is it can’t stay that way. Nothing gold can stay. I love you Floyd, see you soon.” She pulled the trigger while the sun rose. As the sun reached its highest zombies withered away to ashes until nothing remained. Just after Floyd turned to dust, a apple tree grew in his spot. Julia and Anton held hands as they watched the tree grow before them.

The End
and the Start

of a New Beginning
